International Climate Seminar at Lomonosov Business School: Russian and Turkish Students Join Forces to Tackle Global Challenges

22.04.2026

On April 22, the Lomonosov Moscow State University Business School, in partnership with Yeditepe University (Turkey), hosted an international climate seminar workshop in an interactive simulation format, bringing together students to explore innovative solutions to one of the most pressing challenges of our time – climate change.

Central to the seminar was the En-ROADS simulator, a powerful interactive tool for modeling the long-term effects of decisions made by various economic and political agents.

The event brought together a diverse group of students from across Moscow State University – including the Faculties of Geography, History, Biology, and Philosophy, as well as the Institute of Asian and African Studies and the School of Public Administration – fostering a vibrant interdisciplinary dialogue. With the students from Yeditepe University joining online, the workshop gained a valuable international dimension, creating an enriching exercise in negotiation and consensus-building.

The seminar was moderated by Evgenia Shvets, Associate Professor of the Lomonosov Business School’s Department of Economics, a prominent expert in green economy and sustainable development. Professor Barış Baykan coordinated the event on behalf of Yeditepe University, further strengthening the academic partnership between the two institutions.

Participants worked in teams representing a wide array of sectoral and societal stakeholders – from agriculture and industry to trade and environmental advocacy. Each team developed and tested its own strategies for reducing CO₂ emissions, using the En-ROADS model to evaluate the potential impact and effectiveness of their proposals in real time.

The seminar concluded on a high note, with participants expressing strong interest in further exploring capabilities of interactive climate modeling tools. Now in its second year, the initiative continues to grow and has every potential to become a flagship annual event.

By combining insight with practical simulation and international cooperation, such projects play an important role in equipping students with key sustainability competencies – strategic and systems thinking, collaborative problem-solving, and the ability to navigate complex global challenges.

On April 14, Lomonosov Moscow State University Business School hosted a new round of discussions among young researchers, reaffirming its role as a hub for emerging thinking in management and entrepreneurship.

The “Business Management and Entrepreneurship» section of the Lomonosov 2026 academic forum featured presentations by authors of the strongest submissions, selected from more than 50 entries. In total, 21 undergraduate and postgraduate students from leading universities in Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don, Kazan, Novorossiysk, Taganrog, and Yerevan took part.

The presentations reflected a broad and timely agenda. Topics ranged from consumer trust and brand loyalty to the transformation of consulting, the evolution of the banking sector, and the effects of tax policy on business. Participants also tackled leadership and HR challenges, ESG and sustainability, digital tools and analytics, and showcased their own startup ideas.

Bringing their academic expertise to the judging panel were Lomonosov Business School faculty members: Irina Petrovskaya, Vera Kononova, Natalia Churkina, Araksya Mirakyan, Alexander Gritsenko, and Evgenya Shvets. The judges praised the overall standard of the projects, noting both their analytical depth and practical relevance.

The competition’s top honours went to Elizaveta Loginova (MSU), whose presentation examined the problem of destructive leadership. Second place was awarded to Anastasia Dosaeva (MSU) for her study of diversity and inclusivity during organisational change. Third place was shared by Maxim Shvetsov (KFU), who explored the use of machine learning in strategic analysis, and Nail Kamalov (MSU), who focused on optimising operational processes in real estate development.
