1992 A joint Russian-Japanese program for secondary school teachers was launched at the MSU School of Management. The curriculum included “Fundamentals of Market Economy and Business” and “Methods of Teaching Business Disciplines.”
1993 On November 24, the MSU School of Management was transformed into a Business School and became part of the Faculty of Economics. A Bachelor’s degree program in Management was developed by the school’s academic and administrative staff.
1994 Construction of the school building began, funded by the Japanese government as part of a program promoting business education in Russia.
1995 One of the first Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs in Russia was launched at the MSU Business School.
1996 MSUBS and the Business School of Keio University (Japan) began organizing strategy classes for managers twice a year.
2000 On May 5, MSUBS became an independent faculty of Lomonosov Moscow State University.
2001 On January 17, MSU Rector Academician V.A.Sadovnichiy and Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Yōhei Kōno inaugurated the MSU Business School building.
On May 3, the MBA program was accredited by the Ministry of Education and included in the official list of programs granting state-recognized MBA diplomas.
In July, a Master’s program in Management was launched.
On October 10, Rector V.A. Sadovnichiy and Japanese Ambassador Mr. Minoru Tamba planted sakura trees in front of the MSU Business school.
2002 Prof. Douglas Coulter (Harvard University; lecturer at Harvard Business School) joined MSUBS as a lecturer.
2003 The MSUBS Alumni Association was established.
2004 During his visit, Nobel Laureate Joseph Stiglitz delivered a lecture and presented his book.
Leading Russian and international business figures joined the MSUBS Board of Trustees, chaired by MSU graduate O.V. Deripaska.
In May, a PhD program (full-time and part-time) was launched.
2005 Professor Charles Lindblom (Yale and Stanford) met with MSUBS students.
MSUBS was ranked among the Top 40 business schools in Europe (QS). By the end of the year, it became the only business school from Russia and Eastern Europe included in the “Top 100 Business Schools in the World.”
In July, MSUBS graduate students participated in the international “Tokyo Seminar 2005” at Aoyama Gaukin University, Japan.
2006 From June 24 to July 7, Bachelor’s students completed an internship at Northeastern University in Boston.
Mikhail E. Shvydkoi, Head of the Federal Agency for Culture and Mass Communications, delivered a lecture to MSUBS students.
In December, MSUBS welcomed Masaaki Imai, founder and president of the Kaizen Institute.
2007 MSU Business School hosted the international student festival ABEST21, with participants from Russia, Japan, China, and South Korea.
An Executive MBA program was launched at MSUBS designed for top managers from Russian and international companies.
2008 MSUBS was named the #1 business school in Russia by Sekret Firmy magazine.
In July, the first MBA cohort graduated in Kazakhstan (Astana), marking MSUBS’s first program outside Russia.
2010 MSUBS ranked among the Top 20 business schools in Russia and placed 2nd in the Eduniversal Ranking in the category of internationally recognized schools.
Its finance courses were accredited by CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants).
In October, MSUBS and Delphi Strategic Research Group held a joint seminar on Japanese and Russian industrial survival, featuring insights from Prof. Akio Kavato, Prof. V.M. Zubov, and “Russian Machines” CEO A.V. Filatov.
A double-degree MA program was launched with the University of St Andrews (UK).
2011 According to Eduniversal, MSUBS became one of the “best business schools known internationally” and ranked among the top three in Eastern Europe.
MSUBS joined the Baltic Management Development Association.
The MSUBS Bachelor’s Degree program achieved accreditation from the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) through the European Program Accreditation System (EPAS).
MSUBS joined the UN Global Compact’s initiative Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRIME).
2012 James Womack, the Founder and President of the Lean Enterprise Institute, held a “Development Strategy” seminar at MSUBS. MSU Business School joined the Central and East European Management Development Association (CEEMAN) and was re-awarded the status of a school with the highest international influence.
2013 Eduniversal named the MSUBS MBA program 1st in Eastern Europe.
MSUBS Master’s program was ranked among the Top 5 in the region.
2014 MSUBS Bachelor’s program featured among the world’s 84 best business programs with EPAS accreditation.
On June 30, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with MSUBS graduates.
2015 MSUBS confirmed its position among the world’s Top 100 business schools (Eduniversal).
2016 MSUBS Master’s program was awarded with ABEST21 international accreditation.
MSUBS again ranked among the Top 100 globally and Top 10 in Eastern Europe (Eduniversal).
2017 With the support from Basic Element and Ingosstrakh, MSUBS launched the one-year program “Doing Business — Entrepreneurship and Business Development”.
A business school and fashion industry leaders joined forces for a Sustainable Development initiative.
MSU Business School became a member of AACSB.
2018 The book “The Time Has Come: Notes on Different Things” by Dean Oleg S. Vikhanskiy was published.
2019 BA and MA programs in Entrepreneurship were launched.
2020 In cooperation with the Alumni Association, MSUBS launched a mentorship program for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
2021 In January, MSUBS held the International Autumn School on Entrepreneurship and Business Engineering for students from Saxion University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands).
MSUBS conducted multiple COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) projects with Pennsylvania State University.
Joint online student projects were carried out with Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University and Meijo University (Japan) for companies Rei-Frontier Inc. and SAMI Company LLC.
2022 MSUBS entered a new phase of digitalization by equipping its classrooms with advanced technologies.
A new digital learning complex was integrated into its systems, enabling hybrid learning.
In partnership with SPLAT GLOBAL, MSUBS launched the “Act Like an Owner” program to develop entrepreneurial skills through real business cases.
2023 MSUBS enrolled its first cohort in the “Executive MBA: New Reality” program.
MSUBS Master’s students won 2nd place at the prestigious SIGMA Pitch Competition in Dubai.
The MSUBS digital classroom project received 1st prize at the PROIntegration Awards 2023 for best educational integration project.
2024 In February, MSUBS completed the inaugural Doing Business With China program, combining Russian modules with an international residency at the MSU-PPI University in Shenzhen.
In partnership with Russian Railways (RZD), MSUBS launched the course “Artificial Intelligence and Strategies for Digital Business Transformation.”
The Doing Business program, together with SPLAT GLOBAL experts, introduced a new course on product management and product thinking.
2025 MSUBS and Yeditepe University (Turkey) held an International Climate Seminar using the En-ROADS climate simulation platform.
MSU Business School achieved Eduniversal’s highest distinction, receiving the prestigious “5 Palmes of Excellence – Emeritus” status for sustained global leadership in business education.
Dean O.S.Vikhanskiy was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky by MSU Rector V.A. Sadovnichiy.
