Giving Tuesday is a global charity event, which was held all over the world on November 29th. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy with events throughout the year and a growing catalog of resources. MSUBS students were more than happy to take part in #GivingTuesday.
The first step was made a month earlier when the winners of the International Festival and Fair decided to give their prize money to an Independent Non-Profit Organization for Children “Hospital Clowns”. It was the beginning of #GivingTuesday activities in MSUBS.
During a week before #GivingTuesday a group of undergraduate students agitated for blood donation and as a result twelve MSUBS students donated blood in Dmitry Rogachev Federal Research Center.
The second year undergraduate student Lola Nazarova organized a charity action, which was held in the sport centre “Velobeat” in Moscow-city. More than twenty MSUBS students took part in this action. They gathered more than 30 thousand rubles and decided to donate the money to the Starost v Radost (Enjoy the Old Age) foundation working with elderly people.
A Tasty Charity Fair was held in MSUBS by the first year undergraduate students. All the funds raised were given to Independent Non-Profit Organization for Children “Hospital Clowns”. The students succeeded to raise more than 75 thousand rubbles. Konstantin Sedov, the first professional hospital clown in Russia, met the MSUBS students in person. He thanked the students who had organised and participated in the fair: “Due to your donations we will be able to give New Year presents to 20 critically ill children who are at home now. Thank you very much!”
The third year undergraduate students organised a charity event in order to collect food for cats and dogs, which live in the Bereginya animal shelter in Naro-Fominsk. The students succeeded to gather more than 200 kg of food, medicine, dog-leads and other stuff which will allow animals to survive the winter in the shelter. The members of the foundation expressed gratitude to all MSUBS students.
Overall, more than 100 thousand rubles, more than 200 kg pet food and other necessary things for stray animals were gathered during #GivingTuesday. We were glad to take part in this global charity event and hope that next year #GivingTuesday will be no less fruitful. We believe that our students and alumni will promote the idea of #GivingTuesday in the future.
