On July 5, 2012 Lomonosov Moscow State University Business School in cooperation with the Strategic Studies Group "Delphi" held a regular "Meetings on Polyanka" seminar.
James Womack is a founder of the Lean Enterprise Institute, a nonprofit organization headquartered in Boston, which promotes the ideas of lean manufacturing. Lean Enterprise Institute has now representatives in 17 countries. Mr. Womack became widely well-known in the 1990th, when he published his "The Machine that Changed the World". Due to this book the term "lean production" went worldwide. The book was translated into 11 languages, including Russian, and its sales have already exceeded 600,000 copies.
In Russia James Womack is well-known as an author of "Lean Thinking: Banish Waste and Create Wealth in Your Corporation" and "Lean Solutions: How Companies and Customers Can Create Value and Wealth Together" published in 2003 and 2005.
This was the first visit of Mr. Womack to Russia. He visited several companies which are managed by the MSU BS graduates: "Ascona" (mattress production), "Artplast" (plastic bags production), "Poliklinika.ru" (private medical centre) and "Commandir-taxi" (taxi services). Mr. Womack discussed the production and management processes he saw at these companies with the seminar participants and compared it with the international best practices.
